Diversity Visa Lottery results and steps to take if you've been selected 

The Diversity Visa Lottery results for the 2024 DV Lottery were available until September 30, 2024, and the 2025 DV Lottery results are expected by May 4, 2024. Remember, the Department of State won't notify you via letter or email if you've been selected, so check online using your confirmation number.

If selected, it doesn't guarantee a visa but enables progress in the DV Program.

Apply for Immigration

• To apply for an immigrant visa, log in to the Immigrant/Diversity Visa portal . 

• Complete and submit Form DS-260 

• Post-application, you might be scheduled for an embassy or consulate interview. Prepare accordingly.

Facing the interview

Before your interview, make sure you:

1. Review Your Interview Details: Check the date, time, and place on the E-DV website.

2. Review Embassy/Consulate Instructions: Check specific instructions from the U.S. Embassy or Consulate you'll visit for your interview.

3. Complete a Medical Exam: Schedule a medical appointment and vaccinations before your interview.

Post Interview Process

After your immigrant visa interview at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate, the consular officer will inform you of the status of your visa application—whether it's approved or denied.

• Visa Approval: If your visa is approved, you'll receive instructions on how and when your passport and visa will be returned to you.

• Visa Denial: In case of denial, you'll be provided reasons for ineligibility. 

Note: Some denied applications might need further administrative processing, which the consular officer will notify you about post-interview. The duration of this processing varies based on individual circumstances.

Upon receiving your visa:

• Passport with Visa: Check the printed details immediately for any errors. Contact the embassy or consulate if corrections are needed.

• Sealed Immigrant Packet: This packet contains documents for presentation to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) upon arrival. Do not open this packet.

Other important steps and information:

• Travel Timing: Arrive and apply for entry in the U.S. before your visa's expiration date. It's typically valid for up to six months, considering medical examination expiration.

• USCIS Immigrant Fee: Pay this fee to USCIS before traveling to the U.S., excluding specific cases detailed on the USCIS website.

• Vaccination Records: Ensure children have necessary vaccinations before immigrating.

• X-rays: Carry these with you; do not pack them in luggage.

Upon arriving in the U.S.:

• Entry: As the primary applicant, enter before or with family members holding visas. Your visa doesn't guarantee entry; admission is at the discretion of CBP officials.

Upon admission:

• Permanent Resident Status: As a Lawful Permanent Resident, you'll be allowed to work and live permanently in the U.S.
